1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Got engaged!
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I think I’m going to make some resolutions for 2011. I really need to get organized. I mean, I’m good at paying things on time and budgeting and all of that, but I am not organized. I could not currently tell you where one statement for one thing is, insurance policies don’t have a safe place to live, we need a fireproof box. So, getting organized is one of my goals for 2011.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes. One of my friends had a very sweet little girl about a month ago. And she’s rocking at being a mom. It’s precious to watch.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
It was a tragic year. We lost a special girl in our pack. A lot of days it still doesn’t seem real and a lot of other days it hurts so badly that I cannot deny it’s real. I miss her. We all do.
5. What countries did you visit?
Next year, my friends. There’s a wedding in the works!
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you didn’t have in 2010?
Less stupid leftover debt.
7. What dates from 2010 will be etched upon your memory, and why?
The day I got engaged – June 27. The day my friend got engaged – July 4. The weekend she came home to ask us girls – me and Tina – to be her bridesmaids. July 25 – the day we lost her. The day we all stopped, and grew, and changed, and broke. The horrible, horrible day.
8. What was your biggest achievement of this year?
I paid off my car last week. I’d say that’s huge!
9. What was your biggest failure?
I feel like that’s a hard one this year. I did the best I could. And on some days, I just knew it had to be enough.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yeah, my knee is still jacked. Ugh.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A wedding dress. Although I’m not sure yet if it’s the dress, I have a wedding dress under my bed right now. And if you would have asked me at this time last year, I would have told you there was no possible way I’d be engaged and planning a wedding. I’m delighted. It feels so damn good to be here, to have him this excited.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Jeff. He grew a lot this year and I’m proud of him.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
There is one.
14. Where did most your money go?
Well, we’re saving for a wedding.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting engaged. Hosting Thanksgiving at the condo. The turkey turned out fantastic!
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
“If I die young”
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
I’m OK.
The same.
Richer. In many ways, probably even money. Not to be confused with: rich.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Hiking. Unfortunately, my knee was really bad this summer.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Pretending I was/am OK.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With our families. We gave engagement photos as gifts.
21. Did you fall in love with 2010?
Yep. I didn’t think it would feel any different to be engaged, especially since we’ve been dating for so long. It does feel really, really different. And I’m in love. Really, really in love.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
I watch a lot of Food Network.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t think so. That’s harsh.
24. What was the best book you read?
Huh.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Don’t even know.
26. What did you want and get?
The bling on my left hand. Duh.
27. What did you want and not get?
To paint that upstairs bathroom. Still.
28. What was your favorite film of 2009?
We got Netflix!
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
It was my golden birthday this year – 27 on the 27th. And what better way to celebrate than with a diamond ring?
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not losing my friend.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2010?
Average.
32. What kept you sane?
Jeff and Jack. They both wiped a way a lot of tears this year.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
Health care.
34. Who did you miss?
Beck.
35. Who was the best new person you met?
A few new co-workers.
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
Life is short. Live.
37. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
“Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now.”
